Our Story

Hello, and welcome to Growing Sweetpeas!  My name is Whitney, and like many of you, I’m just a mom trying to find my place in this world.  I’m a pharmacist turned entrepreneur, and I developed Growing Sweetpeas with a dedication to providing incredibly soft, easy to wear pajamas made from cuddle-worthy fabrics for you to nurture and grow your family in.  We offer fun prints on pajamas made of high quality fabric that you can feel good about dressing your little ones in, and feel good in knowing that your purchase is going to help other little ones as well.

My Sweetpeas

Three months into our marriage, my husband and I got an unexpected call that would catapult us into parenthood quicker than we could have expected. Our nine month old nephew moved from Kentucky to live with us full time. We could never have anticipated this addition to our family, but we were so blessed to have received that call.  Brandon joining our family was truly the greatest joy we had ever known. We spent the next three years loving him as our own, and finally in May of 2020, we were given the opportunity to adopt. We were already a family but now it was official. I remember his first year with us vividly. I remember because I felt every emotion so deeply. I was overwhelmed by how powerful my instinct to protect him was, and how very much I loved him. At night when I would rock him, I would often worry about all the babies who are born into homes where there isn’t anyone to fight for them. These feelings stuck with me and I knew one day I wanted to do more for children like Brandon.

Fast forward to the end of 2020 when we gave birth to our second son, Beckett.  With the birth of Beckett came a lot of new things. I fell in love with breastfeeding, so I became a lactation consultant. I love taking photos of my boys so I became a photographer. Being a mom of two made me realize how short time was. I had a huge desire to be home with my boys more, so I dropped to part time at my ‘day job’. I decided that with my spare time, I wanted to pursue something I was more passionate about. I loved the connection with patients my pharmacy career had allowed, and I knew I wanted to connect more with moms and families. I also wanted to find a way to become more involved in foster care and give back to children like Brandon.  Foster care and adoption started our family and we hold a special place in our hearts for all the children who go through this. For every sale we make, we donate towards purchasing pajamas for children in foster care.

Our Pajamas

When Brandon joined our family, we were gifted with some great hand-me-downs and my favorites were all the pajamas. We spend a lot of time in our jammie’s. Who doesn’t love to be cozy all day? I quickly developed a love/hate relationship with cotton footie pajamas. Cotton would sometimes be an issue for Brandon’s sensitive skin and once he began walking, footie pajamas were a nightmare. Even with the best of grips, there was a lot of slipping and falling that often ended in tears. After a fall that resulted in a busted lip, I put away all of our footie pajamas for good. I held onto them for our future kids, but I knew that when they started exploring walking, they would be going back into storage.

Since Brandon joined our family at nine months old, I didn't have any newborn pajamas to use when Beckett was born. This is where I found my new love and addiction for bamboo pajamas. Where had these been the last three years!?  They were buttery soft and great for eczema and other skin sensitivity concerns. I spent the next nine months dressing my son in nothing but bamboo. And then it was time to get out the hand me downs. I got out the cotton ones and quickly realized once you go bamboo, there’s no going back.

Pajamas by Growing Sweetpeas are made with 95% Bamboo viscose, since all our little sweetpeas deserve nothing but the snuggliest of materials.  Our infant pajamas feature hand cuffs and foot cuffs, perfect for newborns who play with their hands and feet.  Once your little ones start to explore walking, you can simply roll the foot cuffs and let them explore without worrying about slipping.  Not to mention, the cuff and the stretch of the bamboo fabric allow them to fit so much longer than cotton pajamas.

I hope you love these pajamas as much as our boys do. Stay tuned to our growing business as I hope to bring you so much love and exciting things in the near future. Come join this journey with us, it’s going to be a fun one!
